All About the ETIAS for Germany

Please note that the ETIAS is a new type of authorisation that is expected to enter into force in late 2022. We have compiled all of the available information to let you know what it is, how it will work and how you can apply with Byevisa when it becomes available.

Preparing a trip to Berlin, Frankfurt or Munich? When you travel internationally, it’s always important to make sure you’ve got all the necessary Germany travel authorisations taken care of beforehand.

As of late 2022, all visitors from outside the Schengen zone or European Union need to either go through the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) or obtain a visa before travelling to Germany.

This means that every traveller is screened and approved before arrival, making for faster processing times once you do arrive and creating a better travel experience overall.

Obtaining your ETIAS pass will be quick and easy with Byevisa’s service. Once you are approved, your authorisation will be valid for 3 years. During that time, you will be able to travel for tourism or business to Germany and other countries in the Schengen zone as many times as you would like, as long as you do not go over 90 days in any 180 day period.

Learn all about this travel authorisation system, who is eligible and how to fill out your Germany ETIAS application.

Difference Between Germany ETIAS and Germany Visa

You may be wondering how the ETIAS is different from a traditional visa. Basically, your nationality will determine which type of travel permission you need. If you are not from the European Union or Schengen Area, you must obtain either one or the other, but not both.

Citizens of around 60 countries, including Australia, the UK, Canada, Israel, Mexico, Japan and the United States, do not need a traditional visa to go to Germany for tourism, transit, business or medical purposes. However, you are required to apply for an ETIAS online before you go.

Getting the ETIAS is a simple, fast and easy process that can be done completely online with Byevisa. See if your country is eligible below, or by using our visa checker tool.

People from other countries, including China, Cuba, India, Kenya and Russia, require a Schengen Visa to enter Germany. To apply, you have to organise a Germany visa appointment to submit paperwork to the German embassy or consulate in your home country.

Germany ETIAS Requirements for Eligible Countries

The requirements are very simple. All you need is a valid passport from an eligible country.

Your passport will need to be valid for a minimum of 6 months after your intended arrival date, so be sure to check its expiration date before you apply.

Your application will be checked against crime and security databases, such as Interpol and Europol, in order to determine if you will be allowed entry.

That is because, in addition to its goals of improving the traveller experience and helping coordinate border management, the European Travel Information and Authorisation System requirement has also been put in place to prevent irregular migration and keep the European Union’s borders safe from security threats.

For the vast majority of applicants, it is very easy to fulfil the Germany visa requirements and obtain an ETIAS.

Byevisa will send your confirmation to your email inbox when it is approved, so you can rest easy and enjoy your trip to the land of poets and thinkers.

Then, you’ll be asked to choose a processing speed for when you want to receive your authorisation. You have 3 options:

  • Standard service: Get it in X days for X amount.

Once you submit your form online, all you have to do is wait for Byevisa to send your approved travel pass directly to your email inbox.

  • The date you submitted your application.
  • Its status: pending, approved or rejected.
  • Its expiration date, if it has been approved.

In the extremely rare case that your application is rejected, Byevisa will send you an email to let you know and provide further instructions on what you can do.

You can rest easy knowing that Byevisa will send your approved application directly to your regular email inbox when it is ready. This means that all you have to do is check your email. However, we do offer the visa status check option for those who wish to use it.

If you have not received an email from Byevisa within the timeframe you selected for processing (for example, if you selected the X day Rapid service and X+1 days have passed), please contact our customer support team by clicking the ‘Status’ button at the top of the page and submitting a query.
