All About the Visa for Andorra

Andorra is a tiny country sandwiched between Spain and France in the Pyrenees, with sweeping mountainous landscapes. In winter, it’s a popular skiing destination, while the rest of the year it attracts avid hikers.

Andorra has no entry requirements for visitors. However, you cannot reach it without travelling through Spain or France. This means that, if you are a citizen of a country within the Schengen zone, you won’t need to get any sort of permit, and you can enter Andorra freely.

On the other hand, if you’re from a non-Schengen country, then depending on your nationality, you will need to get either an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) visa waiver or a Schengen Visa to enter. See the next section of this page for more details on these entry documents.

Anyone visiting Andorra for tourism purposes can stay for up to 3 months, after which you would need to apply for a work or resident permit if you wish to stay longer. Read on to learn more!

What Is the Difference Between an Andorra ETIAS Visa Waiver vs Schengen Visa?

The ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) is a new visa waiver system that will be introduced in 2022/3. Much like the American ESTA and the Canadian eTA, it’s a simple online document for all countries that either aren’t Schengen Member States or don’t require a Schengen Visa.

With an ETIAS you will be able to visit any of the 26 countries of the Schengen zone for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The ETIAS is a Multiple-Entry document, so can travel in and out of Andorra freely. What’s more, it’s valid for 3 years, which means you can return time and again on the same document.

By comparison, the Schengen Visa needs to be acquired from an embassy or consulate. The document will be stamped into your passport. Just like the visa waiver, these are valid for stays of up to 90 days in a 180-day period. However, in this case you can choose between 3 types of Multiple-Entry travel documents, valid for either 1, 3 or 5 years. If it’s the first time you are travelling to the Schengen zone, you will be granted a 1-year visa.

Andorra Visa Requirements and Eligibility

To enter Andorra, you will only need to show a passport or European Union ID card. However, as we mentioned above, since there are no commercial flight airports in the country, you will need to enter by land from either Spain or France. Therefore, you must take into account the entry policies for these countries if you wish to visit Andorra.

The Schengen zone is a union of 26 European countries (with more in the process of joining) which allows freedom of movement within the area without stops or checks when you cross a border. The great thing about this is that, once you have your Multiple-Entry Schengen Visa or ETIAS, you will be able to visit any country within the Union.

No matter which travel document you require, your passport must be valid for at least 3 months from your departure date from the Schengen zone.

Also, it’s essential that your entry document allows Multiple Entries, as you will need to use it when you leave and re-enter the Schengen zone from Spain or France.

Andorra Visa Application Process

The application process is different for the ETIAS and the Schengen Visa, so below we have outlined each process step by step to help you navigate both systems.

ETIAS

The great thing about the new ETIAS system is that it’s quick and easy to apply since you can do the whole process online without needing to visit an embassy. Byevisa can take care of the whole process for you.

All you need to do is follow these simple steps, and we will send your travel document directly to your email inbox:

  1. At the top of this page, select your nationality in the first box and either Spain or France in the second box. Then select ‘Get Visa Info’. It will tell you if you are eligible for an ETIAS, how much the government and the processing fees are as well as the processing time.
  2. Then click ‘Apply Now’ and you will be taken to the application form. You will need to fill out the form with your personal details and answer a few questions.
  3. Choose the processing speed between Standard, Rapid and Highly Rapid.
  4. Pay for the application by card.

Simple as that! Once your document has been approved, we will send it directly to you.

Schengen Visa

To be granted a Schengen travel document, you will need to visit the embassy or consulate of the country you will be entering the Schengen zone from. For Andorra, it will likely be France or Spain, unless you plan on visiting other countries beforehand. No matter which embassy you end up applying with, they will all follow this process:

  1. Make an appointment.
  2. Fill out the application form and gather the required supporting documents (see section below).
  3. Bring all the documents to the embassy appointment along with your passport.
  4. Pay the processing fee.
  5. The travel authorisation will be stamped into your passport, which you will need to collect from the embassy. Alternatively, it may be posted to you.

In most cases the application is processed in 15 days. You should apply for the visa between 6 months and 3 weeks prior to your departure date.

Andorra Visa Form and Documents

In this section, we will talk about all the details and documents you need to prepare to be able to travel to Andorra. The application form for both the ETIAS and the Schengen Visa are similar and request much of the same information. Below is a list of details you will need to provide for both:

  • Your full name
  • Your gender
  • Your nationality
  • Your date of birth
  • Your country of birth
  • Your country of residence
  • Your phone number
  • Your email address
  • Your passport number
  • Your passport’s issue date
  • Your passport’s expiry date
  • The first Schengen zone Member State that you will be visiting
  • Your planned arrival date
  • Your physical address
  • Your medical and security background (e.g. criminal record for the EU to check against international databases)

Schengen Visa

Along with the information mentioned above, you will also need to provide the following documents:

  • 2 passport photos
  • Travel insurance
  • Round-trip flight tickets
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Proof of financial means

In addition, as part of the application process, you will need to:

  • Have all your fingerprints scanned
  • Provide a digital photo

These are to be stored in the Visa Information System (VIS) as your biometric identification. Please note that if you are travelling with children, these requirements only apply to those over 12 years of age.

Andorra Visa Status Check

If you have applied for an ETIAS with Byevisa, you can check the status by following these steps:

  1. At the top of the page, click on the Log In’ button.
  2. Enter your contact details and the reason for your query.
  3. Click ‘Submit’.
  4. We will be in touch with you as soon as possible.

On the other hand, if you are wanting to check the status of your Schengen Visa, you should contact the embassy or consulate through which you applied.

How Much Does an Andorra Visa Cost?

As we explained above, you may either need an ETIAS or a Schengen Visa, which have different costs.

An ETIAS is only 7.00 EUR and, to take care of everything for you, Byevisa offers 3 types of service: Standard Service, Rapid Service and Highly Rapid Service. After filling out the application, you will be able to select the option that best suits you.

The processing fees are as follows:

  • Standard – in X days, X USD
  • Rapid – in X days, X USD
  • Highly Rapid – in X days, X USD

Therefore, the total amount will be the sum of the ETIAS and the service fee, and this will be clearly shown on the payment page before you submit the form.

On the other hand, the Schengen Visa cost 80.00 EUR (approx. 96.00 USD), with a reduced fee of 40.00 EUR (approx. 48.00 USD) for children aged 6 to 12. If you apply through an agency or third-party organisation, service fees will apply.

More Andorra Visa Questions and Information

Would you like to know more about travelling to Andorra? We have collected all our most frequently asked questions below to help you navigate all the information you need.

Schengen Area citizens can stay in Andorra for up to 3 months. Moreover, if you are travelling on an ETIAS or Schengen Visa, you should bear in mind that the maximum consecutive stay is also 3 months.
This depends on what sort of document you need. The ETIAS can be processed very quickly since it’s done online. Meanwhile, the Schengen Visa will take a little longer, so we recommend applying at least 3 weeks in advance.
The official site has information in regards to visiting Andorra, but it’s essential you also check the information here about travelling to Schengen countries, as you will have to travel via the Schengen zone to reach Andorra.
In the case of the ETIAS, we do recommend printing a copy as backup, even if the document is electronically linked to your passport. Meanwhile, the Schengen Visa will be stamped into your passport, so you won’t need to print anything.
Again, it will depend on the type of document you need and the processing speed you select. At Byevisa, we offer 3 processing speeds: Standard (X days), Rapid (X days), Highly Raped (X days).
If your travel authorisation is denied, it could be due to incorrect or missing information. In this case, you will be able to reapply. To avoid this happening, make sure you check the information carefully before submitting the application.
No matter what nationality your passport falls under, if it is expired or due to expire, you should renew it before you travel. For your travel document to be approved, your passport needs to be valid for at least 3 months from your intended departure date.
First of all, you should check which entry policies apply to both your passports and choose the one with more lenient entry requirements. If they are the same, then you can pick whichever you wish, so long as you travel with the same passport you used for your application.
If you have a British passport, after Brexit you will need to get an ETIAS to be able to travel through Spain or France to Andorra. Follow the simple steps outlined on this page to get your travel document right away.
US citizens need to get an ETIAS visa waiver to enter Spain or France before they can visit Andorra. No need to worry, though, as it’s quick and easy to obtain this document, as Byevisa will take care of everything for you.
Please find a sample of the ETIAS document that will be sent to you via email. Make sure you print it and take it with you when you travel.
