Burundi Visa Application Process

There are 2 types of application process, depending on which entry policies apply to you:

VoA

If you can get a VoA, then the process is very simple and straightforward. You will first need to get an authorisation letter from the embassy before your trip. Then, once you arrive at Bujumbura airport, simply show the letter to the authorities to be granted a VoA.

Standard visa

If you require a travel document from the embassy, you may be able to either submit your application and collect your approved document in person or do it by post. Please note that the postal service may not be available in every country, so it is essential you check with your nearest embassy whether this option is available.

No matter whether you are applying by post or in person, the process is the same:

1. Collect all the required documents (see section below).
2. Print and complete the application form.
3. Submit your application at the embassy or send it to the embassy by post (don’t forget to include a pre-paid return envelope).
4. Wait for your application to be processed.
5. Collect your application from the embassy or receive it in the post.

Burundi Visa Application Form and Documents

Before you submit your application, read this section carefully to find out exactly what information and documents you will need to provide.

Here is a checklist of all the documents you will need to submit as part of your application:

• A completed and signed application form.
• 2 passport-size photos with a white background.
• A copy of your passport.
• Your original passport, valid for at least 6 months.
• Flight confirmation.
• Accommodation bookings.
• A prepaid self-addressed return envelope (if applying by post).
• Fee payment slips.
• An invitation letter by family members or friends (if applicable).
• Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate.

In addition, you must ensure your passport has 6 months validity remaining on it, as well as 2 blank pages.

The application form is a simple 1-page document requesting your personal details and general information about your trip.

• Whether you will be entering once or multiple times

• Address in Burundi
• Basic details regarding any previous trips to the country

Burundi Visa Status Check

Once you have submitted your application, you will need a little patience while the document is being processed. If 15 working days have passed and you haven’t received the approved document or any news, you can contact the embassy directly to find out the status of your application.

The best thing to do is to visit the website of the embassy you applied with and look for their contact information. You should be able to find a contact form, phone number, email address or all of the above.

How Much Does a Burundi Visa Cost?

The cost of a Burundi visa will vary depending on the length of time you will be spending in the country. The fees are as follows:

• 30-day visa – 70 USD
• 90-day visa – 220 USD

Additionally, if you are applying through an agency or third party, you will likely need to pay an additional service fee.

Some embassies have a payment system set up on their website, while in other countries you will likely need to do a bank transfer and submit the payment slip together with your application.
