All About the ETIAS for Estonia

Please note that the ETIAS is a new electronic system that will come into force in late 2022. We have collated all of the current information to describe what it is, how it is going to work and how we can help you apply for this authorisation once it becomes available.

Want to travel to the best-preserved medieval city in Northern Europe? Whether you are planning to visit Tallinn or explore one of the 2000 islands, you are sure to be surprised by this breathtaking country.

Up until recently, American, British, Canadian and Australian nationals amongst others did not require travel authorisation to visit Europe’s least crowded country and other European destinations.

However, as of late 2022, these nationals are eligible to present a visa waiver at border control, and must as of 2023. The good news is that the ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) is automated and you can easily apply online for your Estonia visa through Byevisa’s portal.

Difference Between the Estonia ETIAS and an Estonia Visa

The ETIAS is the new authorisation required to visit here and 25 other countries in the Schengen zone for a maximum of 90 days during a 180-day time period.

This eVisa document is suitable for short visits to this Baltic state for business, tourism or medical treatment.

It is also required if you are in transit to another Schengen destination such as nearby Finland. It is not suitable for longer visits or trips outside the Schengen Area.

For example, you would not be able to spend 90 days exploring Estonia’s stunning natural parks, take a trip to St.Petersburg (Russia isn’t in the Schengen zone) and then come back to Estonia for 90 days during the same 180-day period.

If nationals of your country aren’t eligible for the ETIAS then you will need to apply for a Schengen Area Visa instead. More information about the different types of documents and the process for applying for an Estonia Schengen Visa can be found on this page.

ETIAS Application Process for Estonia

Obtaining your electronic eVisa couldn’t be easier! Simply provide us with the following details:

  • Your name, date of birth, gender and other personal information.
  • Your passport details including the issue and expiry date. Please check that your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your anticipated entry date.
  • Your email address to send the documentation to, so you can print a copy out. We also need you to respond to a few routine health and security questions so your details can be validated against the EU’s secure databases.

Once you have entered all this information, you need your debit or credit card or PayPal account to pay for the document. You are charged X USD per e-Visa application as well as a Byevisa handling charge which varies depending on how quickly you need the paperwork.

This process takes just 10 minutes of your time and can be done from the comfort of your home on your mobile phone, tablet or computer. Once complete, you receive the requested documentation to the email address provided. Your validation is automatically linked to your passport and lasts 3 years or until your passport expires.
