All About the Visa for Lesotho

It’s now easier than ever for travellers from many countries to visit Lesotho, especially since a new e-Visa system was introduced in 2017. This electronic document is available to citizens of 100 countries, including India, Brazil and China, and it can be used to obtain a permit for tourism, to study and for short business or diplomatic trips. You can apply right here with Byevisa.

Citizens of other countries, including the United States, United Kingdom and Australia, are exempt from needing a travel document and will only need your passport to travel to Lesotho. Of course, this exemption is only valid for short trips for tourism or business, while for longer stays or to work in Lesotho you will need to get a visa.

On the other hand, only a small number of countries and territories are required to get a visa in person from their nearest Lesotho embassy. These are mostly islands such as French Polynesia and the British Virgin Islands.

Read to learn if you’re exempt for a visa to Lesotho, or if you’re eligible for the eVisa, and how to apply!

What Is the Difference Between the Lesotho e-Visa vs Visa Exemption?

The eVisa application process is done entirely online, and it allows travellers to stay for up to 44 days in the case of a Single-Entry document. Multiple-Entry permits are valid for 180 days, and visitors can either enter and exit multiple times or stay for the full period. The great news is that Byevisa can process this travel document for you. Just follow a few simple steps online from the comfort of your home, and we will take care of the rest.

On the other hand, nationalities that are exempt from getting a visa can stay for either 14 or 90 days, depending on the nationality shown on your passport. To discover whether you are exempt and which policies apply to you, see the eligibility section below.

Those nationalities that need to get a visa from the embassy will be granted a Single-Entry permit, which allows a stay of 90 days in the country. Alternatively, long-term visas, work permits and other documents which imply a longer stay in the country will also need to be processed at an embassy or consulate.

Lesotho Visa Requirements and Eligibility

Depending on your nationality, how long you wish to stay and the purpose of your visit (tourism, business, work), different entry policies apply.

Below we have grouped together the different authorisations required by nationality if you wish to visit Lesotho for tourism, study or on a short business trip.

All people visiting Lesotho should check that they have at least 6 months validity on their passport before travelling to the country.
