All About the Monaco Visa
Travelling to Monaco for a taste of the high life? Famous for the Grand Prix and its yachts and casinos, this Western European country exudes glamour.
If you’re planning to visit the world’s second-smallest nation, you’ll need to look up its travel authorisation requirements beforehand.
Some people looking for information on this destination are uncertain as to where exactly Monaco is and if it is a country in its own right. Well, this sovereign city-state is located on the mediterranean sea and surrounded on land by neighbouring France. Italy’s borders are located just 10 miles away (about 16 kilometres) so you can easily visit these delightful destinations too.
The country doesn’t have its own visa policy but uses the Schengen Visa policy. Monaco’s geographical location means that ETIAS travel authorisation will soon be necessary to travel here. We will go on to explain more about this later on in the article.

Monaco Visa Application Process
The process for applying for a visa to Monaco resembles that of applying for one to France.
Because this microstate does not have an international airport, visitors coming from abroad will need to pass through Schengen Area country France on their way there.
ETIAS authorisation is required for citizens of certain countries to access France and, consequently, to get to Monaco. More detailed information on this can be found in the next section.
If you require an ETIAS you can reply for it right here with Byevisa. This can be done from any internet-connected device and just takes a few minutes of your time.
These are the steps to follow:
- First select your nationality and confirm that you’re eligible for the ETIAS.
- Click ‘Apply Now’ to navigate to our application form where you enter some basic personal and travel details. Make sure that you have your passport handy to fill out the online form!
- Choose how quickly you want to receive your travel pass. We offer Standard, Rapid and Highly Rapid service options to cater to all types of traveller.
- Pay for your application using a debit or credit card, or via your PayPal account, if you prefer.
Wait to receive your travel authorisation in your email inbox during the selected time frame.
Remember, if you aren’t visa-exempt, or eligible for the ETIAS, you will need to apply for a Schengen visa if appropriate or for an alternative travel visa.
Wording from below: If you are not eligible for the ETIAS and require a Schengen visa or other type of travel pass you should apply for this via the French embassy or consulate in your country of residence.
Monaco Visa Requirements and Eligibility
Do I need a visa to visit Monaco?
Due to Monaco-France agreements, if you need a visa to France, then you need one to visit here too.
On the other side of the coin, if you do not require a visa to enter the Schengen Member states, you do not need one to visit Monaco either. You will just need to show your valid passport to officials when you land at Nice Airport or wherever else you’re arriving from.
There are many countries that are exempt from visa requirements for their stay in the Principality. However, any foreigners that wish to stay in the country of Monaco for more than 3 months shall require an approved resident permit issued by the embassy.
Consult our convenient eligibility checker tool here if you’re unsure:
If you are from one of the nations that will soon require ETIAS travel authorisation to visit Europe, this will apply to your visit to Monaco. Travellers holding travel authorisation for France are entitled to enter Monaco and remain there for the specified period.

We also require some more specifics about your travel plans including:
- Your planned arrival date.
- Which pass you’re applying for.
- The first Schengen zone Member State that you’re visiting – in this case, France, as you will pass through here on your way to Monaco.
You will also need to input some basic medical and security information. This includes answering standard questions like ‘Do you have a criminal record?’. This information will be checked against security databases, such as Europol and Interpol to confirm that everything is in order.
2. Next, select how quickly you require your ETIAS to be sent to your email inbox from these 3 options:
- Standard: Pay just X USD for processing and you’ll have your pass in X days.
- Rapid: Get it for an X USD processing fee in X days.

To contact us about this issue please head over to the Status section in the menu. Enter your full name, email address, topic of query and a quick explanation of the issue into the form.
Similarly, if you realise that you’ve made a mistake on your application, please get in touch as soon as possible. If we’ve not started processing your application, we will amend it free of charge. If your application is already being processed, you will have to apply again and pay the associated charge.
How Much Is a Visa for Monaco?
ETIAS travel authorisation costs 7 EUR for the pass, plus Byevisa’s processing fee. Our charge for managing your application for you depends on how soon you require your authorisation. With 3 services available (Standard, Rapid, and Highly Rapid), you’re certain to find an option that suits your timeline.
Children under 18 and seniors over 70 do not have to pay the EU charge for the ETIAS. If you are applying for travellers that fit under either of these categories, you’ll just have to pay the associated processing fees.
What Is the Difference Between a Monaco Tourist Visa and a Schengen Visa?
To reiterate, there is not a Monaco visa as such. Travel authorisation for Monaco is regulated by the Franco-Monegasque Neighborhood agreement.
This means if you do not need a visa to enter the Schengen Member states, you do not need one for visiting Monaco either. Bear in mind that some nationalities who were previously exempt from needing a visa to travel to Europe are now obliged to apply online for an electronic travel authorisation. This applies to citizens of the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and Japan.
