Togo Visitor Visa
All About the Visa for Togo
Are you considering a trip to this extraordinary country in West Africa? You surely won’t be disappointed by Togo’s fascinating indigenous cultures, diverse landscapes and abundance of wildlife. What’s more, the entry policies for this country are pleasantly uncomplicated, so it is fairly straightforward to obtain the correct documents.
Tourists visiting Togo are either visa-exempt, eligible to obtain a Visa on Arrival (VoA) or need to get a tourist visa from an embassy. There is only 1 country that falls under the last category and requires pre-authorisation from an embassy, and that is Mauritania.
The vast majority of countries and territories worldwide including the USA, UK and European Union (EU) need to get a VoA as they land. This travel permit allows visits of up to 7 days.
Meanwhile, citizens of 9 African countries including South Africa, Ghana and Nigeria can visit Togo without requiring any additional travel documents. The same goes for Romanian nationals, who are also visa-exempt when travelling to Togo.
Read on to find out exactly which policies apply to your nationality and what documents you will need to provide to visit Togo as a tourist.

What Is the Difference Between a Togo VoA vs Visa-Exemption?
The VoA grants tourists access for 7 days, and your arrival day counts as the first day, no matter what time you arrive.
If you prefer, you can also obtain a visa in advance from the embassy. However, this is not necessary, and you can easily obtain your travel document when you arrive in the country.
Additionally, you can extend your stay to up to 90 days while you are in the country, or by applying for a standard visa beforehand.
Nationalities that fall under the visa-exemption agreement won’t need to obtain any travel permits to enter the country. You can travel to Togo with just your passport, or in some cases a valid ID card, so long as you are not working or studying in the country but just visiting relatives or sightseeing.
Togo Visa Application Process
For those eligible for a VoA, the process to obtain your travel document is very simple. You will get it directly at the airport or any other point of entry upon arrival. This travel document will grant you a stay of 7 days.
On the other hand, if you are planning on staying for more than 7 days, or you would like to get your travel document before you travel, it’s no problem at all! You can obtain your document through any Togo diplomatic mission.
The standard visa issued by an embassy or consulate grants the applicant 90 days stay in this West African country. You can also choose between a Single or Multiple Entry document.

- A passport with at least 6 months validity remaining on it and 2 blank pages for entry and exit stamps.
- Confirmation of return flights or onward travel bookings.
- 2 recent passport photos with a blank background.

- Confirmation of return flights or onward travel bookings.
- 2 recent passport photos with a blank background.

Extending Your Visa in Togo
If you wish to extend your stay while you are already in Togo, you may do so at the Foreigners and Passport Service office in the capital Lome. In this case, you must provide the same documents listed above, required for a pre-departure embassy visa. In addition, you must apply before your 7-day VoA expires.
Yellow Fever Certificate
In addition to the documents mentioned in this section, anyone entering the country must have an International Vaccination Certificate showing they are vaccinated against yellow fever. Please be aware that border officials may request to see this certificate upon arrival.
Togo Visa Status Check
If you are eligible for a VoA (check in the Eligibility and Requirements section above), you will receive your document right away at the border. As such, you won’t need to go through any of the complicated processes involved in getting a standard travel document.
On the other hand, if you are applying for your visa in advance at an embassy, you may wish to check at what stage of the process your application is. In this case, you should contact the embassy directly to request an update. We recommend only contacting the embassy if you haven’t heard from them in the time expected, or if your travel date is nearing and you are concerned about receiving it in time.
How Much Does a Togo Visa Cost?
The cost of travelling to Togo varies depending on the length of your stay. For those just staying for the 7 days granted by the VoA, you will only need to pay a small fee when you arrive at the border of 15000 West African francs, which is about 30 USD.
For those visiting for longer, you will need to get a 90-day visa, which costs 140 USD.
In addition, in the event you choose to use an agency to help you apply and process your application, you must take into account the additional fees the agency will charge. These can vary considerably from country to country and agency to agency, so make sure you find out the costs involved before starting the process.
