Please note that, at this time, Cyprus is still to join the European Union’s Schengen Area. When this Mediterranean island nation does, and once the ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) visa waiver launches in late 2022, you may require this travel document to visit. As such, we’ve provided all the details about the forthcoming ETIAS for Cyprus below.

All About the Cyprus ETIAS Visa Waiver

If you come from a country that, up until late 2022, enjoyed visa-free access to Europe’s Schengen zone, it’s important to know that the European Union is implementing a new visa waiver system. As such, if you are planning a trip to the idyllic island of Cyprus, then once this country joins the Schengen Area, you may need to acquire what’s called an ETIAS travel document before your journey.

Until now, Americans, Brits, Australians, Canadians, and more than 50 other nationalities have enjoyed visiting most of Europe without the hassle of getting a travel pass. From hereon, though, the EU is putting in place these new requirements to allow them to monitor who is coming in and out of the Schengen zone more efficiently.

Fortunately, there’s no need to worry, as we have been keeping up to date on all the details and know the process inside out, so we can help you get everything you need to make your trip run smoothly. In the meantime, you can focus on more important things like which beaches to go to, what the most famous archaeological sites are and where to find the most scenic hiking routes in Cyprus!

On this page, you will find everything you need to know about who needs to get an ETIAS to travel to Cyprus, how to apply for one, how much does it cost and how long it will take.

Visa for Cyprus Application Form and Process

Although Cyprus is part of the EU, it isn’t currently part of the Schengen zone; however, it is in the process of officially joining. The Schengen zone is a union of 26 European countries which allow Freedom of Movement between their borders without the need to stop at customs to have your passport checked. As such, the ETIAS will be applicable to Cyprus once it’s joined the Schengen Area.

With the new system, you will still enjoy the same freedom to travel once you are in the Schengen zone; you’ll just need to get the ETIAS in advance to enter. This means that, once you have your visa waiver for Cyprus, you will also be able to travel around all the other countries of the Schengen zone.

Applying for a Cyprus ETIAS couldn’t be easier with Byevisa. The process is very similar to the American ESTA system or the Canadian eTA, in that you apply online and you receive the document via email. So the whole process is electronic, making it much more straightforward than getting a traditional Cyprus embassy visa.

To obtain an ETIAS, you will need to follow these 3 simple steps:

  1. Fill out the online form.
  2. Pay the fee.
  3. Receive the document by email.

It takes just 10 minutes to fill out the online form with the information required. Before you submit the form, make sure you have completed each section correctly with all the relevant information.

To finalise the application, you will be asked to pay a small fee with a credit or debit card or via PayPal, and then you can sit back and relax while we process your application.

Once your application is approved, you will receive it directly into your inbox, at which point you will be ready to fly out to Cyprus and soak up the sun!

Cyprus Visit Visa Requirements and Eligibility

This travel document is expected to be available from late 2022, although there may be a transition period of approximately 6 months during which the document won’t be mandatory.

To visit with the ETIAS, your stay should be for no longer than 90 consecutive days in any 6-month period. Also, your visit to the country must be for tourism, business, medical reasons or transit purposes. Once approved, each waiver is valid for 3 years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.

What do you need to provide to obtain an ETIAS? Fortunately, the requirements to apply are much simpler than the endless papers and documents you need for a traditional visa. All you will need is:

  • A valid passport for 6 months from your date of entry into Cyprus.
  • An email address to receive the document.

Who is not eligible for the ETIAS?

  • If you are a citizen of a country that requires a Schengen Visa.
  • If you are planning to stay longer than 90 consecutive days in any 6-month period.

Apply for Your Cyprus Visa Online: Forms and Documents

As mentioned, the online form has been designed to be completed quickly and easily. The information you need to submit can vary a little depending on your citizenship, but the basic information is the same for everyone.

Here’s an outline of all the information you should have to hand before you get started with the online form. Fortunately, unlike with standard visa applications, you will not need photos of yourself or lots of documents; all you will need is your passport.

You will need to provide the following information:

  • Personal information:
    • First name.
    • Last name.
    • Maiden name.
    • Date of birth.
    • Place of birth.
  • Passport details.
  • Citizenship information.
  • Current address.
  • Contact details (email and phone number).
  • Schengen entry point (first country you will visit).
  • Employment history.
  • Background questions, including medical conditions and criminal history.

Once you pay the fee and submit the form, 3 processes will take place:

  • The information will be checked to ensure it is correct.
  • Your visa-waiver eligibility will be verified.
  • Your details will be checked against several databases such as EURO CAD, VIS, SIS, EUROPOL and Interpol to assess your risk factors.

If none of these systems raises a flag, then your ETIAS will be approved. As such, in most cases, approval will be virtually instantaneous.

That said, if anything pops up, then your application will be processed manually and that can take a little longer. For instance, this may be necessary if you don’t have an e-passport. While your application is being processed manually, you may be asked to provide additional information.

Once your ETIAS is approved, it will be sent to you via email. Fortunately, there’s no need to print a copy, as your permit will show up automatically in the EU’s systems. As such, when the authorities scan your passport at customs, they can verify that you’re permitted to enter. At the border, you will need to say from which country you are entering the Schengen zone.

If for any reason your application is rejected, you will be notified by email and you will be given the reason for the refusal. Then, you will have the right to appeal the decision or you can reapply, depending on what reason was given for the rejection.

We have designed a quick and easy system to help you with the process and we will be available every step of the way to make your application as straightforward as possible. Can you hear the sounds of the gentle Cypriot waves already?

Cyprus Tourist Visa Status Check

Once you have completed the form, paid the fee and submitted it, you will receive an email confirmation from Byevisa. Based on which processing speed you select, you will receive your ETIAS in your inbox in that timeframe. If you don’t remember which processing speed you selected and when to expect your document, please check the email confirmation.

If by any chance you haven’t received the email confirmation after submitting the form, you may have entered an incorrect email address. The best thing to do is to raise a query with us by going to our bottom menu and clicking ‘Contact Us’. Fill in the details required and we will be in touch with a solution.

Once your application has been processed and all the checks have been completed, it will be approved by the European Commission. We will then send the ETIAS directly to you via email, at which point you’re ready to set off to sunny Cyprus!

What Are the Cyprus Visa Fees?

The cost of this travel document is only 7 EUR, plus Byevisa’s processing fee. To take care of everything for you, Byevisa offers 3 processing speeds based on how quickly you need your pass:

  • Standard Service
  • Rapid Service
  • Highly Rapid Service

Once you reach the payment page, you select the option that best suits your needs.

This document is incredibly good value, as you will have access to all Schengen Area countries for up to 3 years. With just 1 paper you can visit almost all of Europe to your heart’s content – what more could you ask for?

What’s the Difference Between a Cyprus ETIAS Visa Waiver and a Cyprus Schengen Visa?

If you are not from 1 of the eligible countries listed above and you’re not a citizen of an EU country, then you will need to get a Schengen Visa to visit Cyprus. This allows similar visit conditions to the ETIAS, yet the process and requirements to acquire this document are more extensive.

There are different types of Schengen tourist visas including Single Entry, Double Entry and Multiple Entry. For example, the Multiple Entry document can be valid for up to 5 years with the same conditions as the ETIAS, allowing stays of up to 90 days within any 6-month period.

That said, the process to get this visa is a little more complicated. You will need to provide more documents and information, like passport-size photos, travel insurance and return flight tickets. You will also need to visit the country’s embassy or consulate to apply.

FAQs About the Cyprus ETIAS

The following are the most frequently asked questions regarding the application process and eligibility for the ETIAS. If you have any doubts or would like to find out more, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us!

The ETIAS lasts 3 years from the issue date, with the possibility of entering the Schengen zone as many times as you wish. However, you can only stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period. If you plan to stay longer you will need an alternative visa.
The Cyprus visa official site has much of the same information we have outlined on this page. We have gone through all the bureaucratic details carefully and then selected all the information relevant to travellers, so you have everything you need to know right here.
The processing time for your Cyprus ETIAS depends on which service you select when you submit your application. Each service has its own time frame, so you can choose which one best suits your needs from Standard, Rapid and Highly Rapid.
If your passport has expired or is due to expire, you will need to first get a new passport before you can apply for the ETIAS. If you already have an ETIAS but your passport is expiring, you will need to get a new waiver after renewing your passport.
If one of your passports is from a Schengen Member State, then you won’t need to get a visa waiver, but make sure you travel using this passport. Otherwise, you can get an ETIAS as long as one of your passports is eligible (see the country list above).
This depends on when you are travelling, but try to apply for the waiver at least 72 hours before your leave. If you are in a rush, you can use our Highly Rapid Service.
No, strictly speaking, it’s not necessary as border officials will be able to verify the visa waiver when they scan your e-passport. However, we do recommend that you print a copy of your ETIAS once you receive it by email and take it with you on your trip, just in case.
If your application is denied, Byevisa will send you an email with the reason given by the European Commission and the next steps you should take. Read the instructions carefully, and promptly provide any additional information required to re-submit your application.
The ETIAS is a simple document containing your details and confirming that your application to enter the Schengen zone has been approved. We have included a sample for you:
