All About the ETIAS Authorisation Malta

The European Travel Information and Authorisation System, or ETIAS, is scheduled to come into effect in late 2022 and becomes mandatory from 2023. In the meantime, Byevisa has gathered together all the information international travellers should know in preparation for your future travel plans.

Ready to tick the Blue Lagoon off your bucket list? Before travelling to this sunny island country, you must take care to get your travel authorisation in place.

As of late 2022, citizens of around 60 countries, including the USA, UK, Australia and Canada, can apply for the electronic ETIAS pass. Once your application has been approved, the 3-year authorisation allows you to visit Malta and other Schengen Area countries for up to 90 days at a time.

Getting your ETIAS authorisation is quick and hassle-free with Byevisa, allowing you to go ahead and book your holiday with peace of mind knowing your official documents are in order. Read on to learn more about who is eligible, travel requirements, restrictions and how to apply.

How the Malta ETIAS Is Different From a Malta Visa

If you are not a citizen of the European Union or Schengen Area, you need either the ETIAS or a visa in order to be allowed entry. Which document you need depends on your nationality.

The ETIAS is issued to citizens of countries that, before 2023, did not need a visa for the Schengen zone, which includes the United States, United Kingdom, Mexico, Japan and many more. It is valid for 3 years and can be used for multiple visits, as long as you do not surpass 90 days in any 6-month period. You’ve got to be travelling for tourism, business, transit or medical reasons.

On the other hand, a Malta visa is required for many countries, including India, Pakistan and Zimbabwe. A Schengen visa is valid for Malta, so that is one option you may want to keep in mind if you are planning a short visit.

Regardless of where you are from, anyone who wants to work or study long-term in the country needs a special visa that authorises you to do so.
