All About the Romania Visa

Heading to Romania to visit its majestic castles and beautiful medieval towns? You’ll need to investigate travel authorisation requirements before you go!

Some nationalities including Americans, Canadians, Australians and citizens of New Zealand don’t require a visa to visit here if you’re visiting as a tourist for less than 90 days. You will, however, need to have a current passport valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter the country.

Alternatively, citizens of other countries including India, Pakistan and Thailand do require Romania travel visa authorisation. If this applies to you, you’ll be happy to hear that there is an eVisa available and you can apply for it today with Byevisa.

The first step is to fill out an easy online application. Proof of your itinerary and accommodation is required to obtain the travel authorisation as well as a photograph, medical insurance for your trip and proof of funds to cover your stay.

You will then need to go in person to the corresponding embassy or consulate to finalise your application.

These are the 5 steps to follow:

  2. Upload your supporting documents in the correct format (more information on this below in the ‘Application Forms and Documents’ section).
  3. Submit and pay for your online application. We offer 3 processing speeds for your convenience.
  4. Wait to receive your Romania visa online confirmation by email during the time frame you chose at checkout.
  5. Once you’ve received the electronic travel authorisation, you need to visit the relevant diplomatic mission or consulate to verify your documents and complete the process.

How far in advance should I apply?

Please note, it can take a few weeks for your application to be processed. We recommend submitting your application at least 2 weeks before your estimated date of departure and no more than 3 months before that date.

If you intend to stay for a period of over 3 months, you should contact the Romanian General Inspectorate for Immigration. If you’re looking to work here, for example, you will need to request a different type of travel authorisation.
