Indian tourists require a short term tourist visa to enter the country when arriving on a Romanian vacation. This authorisation must be applied for in advance of the trip.

Part of the application process must be completed online, but the documents to support your application must be submitted to your local Romanian consulate. You can apply for either a single, double or multiple entry visa.

What are the Romania Visa Requirements for Indians?

When you’re making your application for your short stay tourist travel authorisation, you need to supply certain supporting documentation. This includes:

  • A passport that will remain valid for a minimum of 3 months beyond your intended length of stay.
  • A copy of your ID card.
  • 2 recent colour passport photos, size 3 cm x 4 cm, on a white background.
  • A completed application form.
  • A letter from your employer.
  • A return flight ticket.
  • Medical insurance that is valid for 1 day beyond the length of your stay and coverage of 30,000 EUR or more. You will need to supply the original certificate and a copy.
  • Proof that you can support yourself during your stay. A minimum of 54.54 USD per day is required or a minimum amount of 545.45 USD for your whole trip.
  • Proof of your booked accommodation.
  • A written invitation approved by the General Inspectorate for Immigration.

This documentation is not supplied at the time of making your initial application. You need to supply it to the Romanian consulate near you.

How to Get a Visa for Romania for Indians

Applying for your tourist travel authorisation for your Romanian holiday is a 2-step process. First, you will need to print out an application form. This requires you to complete certain personal details including:

  • Your birth date
  • Your nationality

  • Your email address
  • Your telephone number

You can then print out your completed form and press ‘Send’ to submit it electronically.

Do Indians Travelling to Romania in Transit Need A Visa?

Yes. Even if you will not be leaving the international area of the airport, you need to obtain the Airport Transit Visa.

To do this, you need to supply proof that you will be continuing your journey to its final destination as well as your valid passport, a colour passport photo and evidence that you have a visa if necessary for the country that you are heading to.

If you are intending to leave the airport because you have a long layover, you still need a transit authorisation, but it will be a different document.

You need to apply for the Transit Visa B, which allows you to enter the country and stay for a maximum of 5 days. You need to supply the same documentation as for the Airport Transit permit together with your driving licence.

When Should I Apply for a Romanian Visa?

The processing time for a Short Stay Romanian tourist visa can be up to 14 days from the day you make payment. You must therefore leave at least this length of time before your trip to apply.

Bear in mind, though, that you cannot apply any earlier than 90 days before you’re due to travel, so you should apply around 1 month before your date of travel for the greatest peace of mind.
