Do I Need a Visa for Bangladesh?

Most foreign visitors require permission to enter Bangladeshi territory.

This includes Americans, Australians, Brits, Canadians and Indians visiting for tourism purposes, for business, or because you’re looking to invest in the country.

You can start the application for a paper visa online with us today in just a few minutes. No need to waste time figuring out how to fill in a long, complicated form by hand!

You will just need to enter some simple details about your trip for us to process your travel authorisation on your behalf.

Applications must then be submitted by post or in person at one of the Bangladesh diplomatic missions located around the globe. A full list of consulates across the world can be found on our Bangladesh Embassies page.

Citizens of some countries are eligible for a Bangladesh Visa on Arrival (VoA). There is a charge of 51 USD (taxes included) to obtain this. It must be paid only in cash in US dollars or euros when entering the country.

In the ‘Bangladesh Visa Requirements and Eligibility’ section below we will go into more detail about which nationalities are eligible for what type of travel pass so things will be clear as crystal.

Is There an Online Visa Application for Bangladesh?

Yes, start the process to obtain your paperwork online with Byevisa today to avoid any last-minute stress at immigration.

The first step is to fill in a Bangladesh online visa form. This can be done quickly and easily via our website.

You just need to enter some personal information and travel details into the form and, once done, we will send you the completed application.

What next?

The next step is to submit your documents at an application centre. You will need to print out your completed form in advance.

You should also bring along all relevant supporting documents as well as cash or a valid card to pay for your paper visa. This can be done at the Bangladesh mission closest to where you live.

Select from either a Single-Entry or Multiple-Entry pass depending on your plans. The maximum time you will be allowed to stay in the country is 60 days per visit.

VoA

In the case of US citizens travelling to Bangladesh, the government strongly advises that Americans obtain their paperwork before departure to avoid issues. Many other governments also advise this, as the decision about issuing a VoA is entirely at the discretion of the immigration officer.

Whenever possible, travellers should obtain their travel authorisation in advance of their trip. We can help you start this process today!

Please note, that in order to obtain a tourist visa, you must hold a passport with at least 6 months’ validity and 2 blank pages minimum. You cannot work in the country on a tourist pass.

Bear in mind that visa acquisition is not guaranteed, it is always at the discretion of the country’s authorities.

Meanwhile, the following countries can only get a VoA, they are not eligible for a paper visa:

  • Kosovo
  • Palestine

The maximum duration of a Single-Entry Visa on Arrival is 30 days and it can be extended for an additional 30 days. Applicants can apply for the extension of the VoA up to a week before it expires but not sooner. Extensions are available at the Department of Immigration and Passports located in West Agargaon, Dhaka City.

What are the requirements for the No Visa Required seal or certificate?

Foreign nationals of Bangladeshi heritage can apply for a No Visa Required (NVR) seal or vignette (sticker) to visit Bangladesh. This also applies to (foreign-born) spouses or children of Bangladeshis.

The application can be done via the government online portal or the embassy and the NVR is then placed on a page in the holder’s passport. The NVR allows the bearer to travel freely to the country without restrictions on the length of stay and number of visits. It is valid until the date that the holder’s passport expires and can then be transferred to your new passport.

*The Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines do not explicitly indicate whether the spousal NVR entitlement only applies to opposite-sex couples.

When making an application for your travel authorisation, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the time you’re planning to stay in the country. If you hold a Bangladeshi ‘No Visa Required’ seal, this can be transferred to your new passport. This transfer process can be done at the embassy or nearest consulate in your country, or, at the local Immigration and Passport office if you are already in Bangladesh.
You will need to decide which passport you are going to apply with. Prices vary depending on which country you’re from, so it is worth considering this when deciding which passport to apply with.

Yes, the government says that you should use either an ink-jet or laser printer to print your completed application form. This is important, as you will have to either post it or take this paperwork to the visa office to finalise your travel authorisation.
If your application is denied, you should contact the embassy of Bangladesh where you submitted your application. They may be able to explain to you why it has been rejected. However, the High Commission does reserve the right to reject applicants without assigning any reason.
