The Brazilian government brought in eVisas for citizens of several countries including the USA, the UK, Canada and Japan in 2018. However, Indian citizens were not included in this change.

There has been an announcement that Indians will soon be able to travel to Brazil without needing any type of travel authorisation other than a valid passport but, as yet, this has not been introduced. At the present time, Indians must therefore still go through the usual procedures to apply for a Brazilian visa as normal.

Is the Brazil Visa Free for Indians?

Although the Brazilian authorities have said that soon Indian citizens will be able to travel to their country without any need to apply for a travel authorisation in advance, this has not yet been introduced. At the present time, Indians must, therefore, apply for a visa at the nearest embassy and pay the required fee in order to be issued with the appropriate documentation to travel.

The requirements for applying for a Brazilian visa include:

  • A passport with 6 months validity remaining on the date of entry into the country.
  • 2 blank pages in the passport to receive the stamp.
  • A recent passport photograph.
  • Proof of your income.
  • A covering letter outlining the details of your trip including your itinerary.
  • Evidence of your hotel and return travel.
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate.

Brazilian Visa Fee for Indians

You need to pay a fee in advance when applying for your Brazilian visa. This fee currently stands at 6400 Rupees.

Is There a Brazilian Visa on Arrival for Indian Tourists?

Unlike some other countries, Brazil does not offer any type of visa on arrival for tourists arriving from any other country including India. This means that you won’t be able to obtain your travel authorisation to enter the country when you fly in for your vacation.

How Far in Advance Do I Need to Apply for a Brazilian Visa?

Remember that the Brazilian tourist visa only remains valid for a period of 90 days, so you need to make sure that you make your application at the correct time to ensure that it remains valid when you enter the country. It will only take a few days to process your visa and issue it, but it’s wise to complete the paperwork at least a week before your vacation.

Do Indians Need a Visa for Brazil if They are in Transit?

Some Indian citizens will be travelling through Brazil on their way to their final destination. If you are arriving at a Brazilian airport and have a short layover before taking another flight onwards, you do not need any travel authorisation for your trip.

In order to benefit from this, however, you are required to remain inside the transit area of the airport and will not be able to leave to explore the surrounding area. You are also required to have a layover that is shorter than 7 hours.

Is it Safe for Indians to Travel to Brazil?

Many Indian citizens travel on vacation to Brazil every year and have no problems. Of course, it makes sense to follow all normal precautions when visiting any country.
