The time zone here is GMT+9, 4 hours ahead of Pakistan’s GMT+5. So be sure to factor in this time difference for when you arrive.

For example, if you’re arriving very early or very late in the day, you may wish to adjust how many hours you sleep to adapt to the time zone. Also, be sure to take into account the time difference when you book any attractions or visits.

The official language here is Japanese. Fortunately, English is spoken throughout the country, particularly in the big cities and tourist areas, so you can use this language to communicate. That said, the locals will surely appreciate it if you attempt some basic Japanese, so here are a few key words and phrases:

  • Kon’nichiwa = Hello
  • Hai = Yes
  • Iie = No
  • O-negai shimasu = Please
  • Arigatō = Thank you
