  • Australia is located in the southern hemisphere and is the largest country in Oceania, totalling 7.692 million km². That’s 5.2% of the world’s landmass!
  • This country’s seasons are the reverse of what you may be used to in Europe or the USA. It’s summer from December to February and winter from June to August.
  • There is no official language of Australia, although English is the lingua franca. The next most commonly spoken tongue is Mandarin, spoken by over 300,000 people.
  • The currency of Australia is the Australian dollar (currency code: AUD). The money is locally referred to as ‘bucks’ and the notes are very brightly coloured!
  • Australia’s international dial code is +61, should you need to call a local hotel, attraction or other organisation ahead of your trip.
  • Chief attractions Down Under include Sydney, with its famous Opera House, Uluru, an iconic sandstone rock, and the Great Barrier Reef.
